Wednesday, June 6, 2012 Sunrise

Today was a glorious sunrise over the Bull Run Mountain. That's where I live, by the way, in the Eastern-most reach of the Blue Ridge Mountains. You can learn all about it, here.
As I was writing this post, I began to wonder if there is any real diference between sunrise and sunset. Seems that sunrises are pinker, more delicate, and sunsets are rich and bold.
The atmospheric explaination is that the air is a little cooler in the morning, and in the evening there is more dust kicked up for greater refraction of light. The artistic explaination is that the sunrise brings behind it day and light, lighting the clouds from beneath to create a subtle glow and soft shadows, while sunset lights the clouds from above for deeper and contrasty shadows, while bringing behind it darkness and night.
The commet I liked most is that my sunset is always, and the exact time, someone else's sunrise. Never thought of it that way.
