Cute: Papercraft and Micromodels

I've been trying to come up with a good description for my blog's Google result. Papercraft seemed a good word...because I craft with paper. It turns out papercraft is most specifically the making of small 3-D models with paper. Cool! ...although it isn't exactly what I am doing. Maybe it should be. They are cute.

Papercraft began in the WWII years in Great Britain. Almost everything was rationed during WWII, but not paper, so many models were made and sold in postcard-sized packets. They were popular with people of all ages. "Your workshop in a cigar box" (don't you just love that?) became the slogan for Micromodels, one of the most prominent manufacturers. Micromodels and other kits of the era are now sought after vintage items.

There's a resurgance of micro modelling thanks to the internet. My favorite of the modern micro models (say that five times fast) is the Calendar of the Month series from Scout Creative.
